Our story

The landscape and the vineyards have shaped this haven over more than three decades.

A Legacy Begun

Dating back to 1692, this historic farm was originally granted to François du Toit, a French Huguenot who sought refuge in the Cape. Over generations, the property became part of the enduring Du Toit family legacy in South Africa.

A Place of Cultural
Significance

The estate is also home to the Gedenkskool, established in 1881 — the first Afrikaans-language school in the country, which operated until 1910, adding a meaningful cultural chapter to the farm’s story.

Stewarded With Care

Kleinbosch remained in the Du Toit family until 1950 and is today lovingly owned and cared for by the Smit family. With a vision rooted in preservation, they are restoring the farm’s historic charm and planning the return of a boutique winery to the estate.
